Several years ago, I was contemplating a career change. I wanted to show that I could start a sophisticated project and see it through to the end…in my personal time. So, I took on one of the most challenging things I could think to do. I wrote a video game. It is far from a great game, but it was a fun project. I learned a lot and had a lot of fun with it.
Conceptually, the game is 3D Space Invaders. The alien space ships spin back and forth in a cylinder while the player spins side to side to shoot them. The colors were indicative of the number of hits to it took to destroy the ship. In addition, the user had “helper cylinders” that they could fire off to see if they were lined up to hit any of the aliens.
It took a little while to get used to, but the “range ring” at the bottom made it much easier to aim.
Although quite an accomplishment for me, the game was quite simple and did not generate much excitement.
Believe it or not, I still have the original installer. So if your curiosity is sufficiently piqued, have at it!
